catholic social teaching

Catholic Social Teaching is rooted in scripture and is our moral compass in living out our faith in the world. We are called to walk in the footsteps of Christ and bring his love and Gospel to our world.

At St Edmunds we have incorporated this into 7 principles. The 7 Principles are displayed in each classroom, linked to a scripture reference and are woven into all areas of school life. We refer to them in our weekly Gospel assemblies, our Key Stage assemblies and class reflections.

We also make strong links to the 7 Principles through our 10 Learning Characteristics that we focus on and celebrate each week.

 Examples:

1. Ambitious – The Common Good, Promote Peace,          Preferential Option for the Poor

2. Confident – Human Dignity, The Common Good

3. Collaborative - Solidarity

4. Faithful – Human Dignity, Promoting Peace

5. Independent – Human Dignity

6. Inquisitive – Stewardship, Promote Peace

7. Motivated - Preferential Option for the Poor, Stewardship

8. Resilient – Preferential Option of the Poor

9. Respectful – Stewardship, Human Dignity

10. Resourceful – Stewardship, The Common Good, Solidarity

As a school, we have identified where and how we cover the CST Principles in each year group’s curriculum.

Eg in History, Geography, PE, Science.

There are also many areas of daily school life that we have identified that demonstrates how we reinforce and explicitly teach the children about the CST Principles. For example: Forest Schools, Lenten Charity action, being a Rights Respecting School, music lessons, Sports Clubs, Residential trips, French Exchange, creation of Class Charters, visits from the Royal British Legion for Remembrance and many more.
